Looking for band members...again...
It's been about a year since I have considered being in a band, you know gigging, practicing, hopes of going somewhere.
What I am looking for...
1. Musicians who are serious about playing, and if things go well would consider doing it semi-professionally.
2. You don't have to the best musician but I can't be in a band with someone that doesn't have a desire to be better than they are, or worse, isn't willing to work at that.
3. You gotta have good (and loud) gear and I'd prefer you know how to use it
4. 3-5 piece, the dynamics of a 3 piece band differ completely from a 4 or 5 piece but I am happy doing either.
5. Good people, there is nothing worse than practicing with someone who gives you the feeling they are doing you a favor by playing
6. As for content, I am very open, but I am extremely interested in original semi-experimental rock. No cheesy prog, or "look at me I can play 16ths at 405218bpm". I am getting into weird sound fx and stuff and I would like to incorporate that into my next band. Something like this song with some lyrics, and way less guitar wanking.
Yes I have high hopes but I would settle for less...really. I am also open to trying some, send mp3's back and forth of recordings, get together once a month for the weekend and practice for 2 days straight. So if you live within a couple hundred miles I'm down...
I am always willing to contribute money towards equipment and rehearsal space, I'm only as cheap as I can afford to be...
and in case your wondering I think I meet all of the above.
As for you local bloggers (or non-local) reading this, I would really really greatly appreciate if maybe you could mention/link this on your blog.
Hope to hear from one of you...

Weekend recovery

Saturday night I spontaneously decided to go to Bakersfield to play Hold 'em with his buddies. I was the "new guy" in the group and it was my first time actually playing, and I slaughtered them, naturally Dallas was my first victim.
Anyway yesterday I went and saw Constantine, and it was a great movie. Keanu's best role I have ever seen except maybe Bill and Ted's. It had the typical Hollywood religion feel, meaning inaccurate quotes and out of context bible quotes, it was still good. One thing that made this movie as good as it was, was the comedy. I think that is what puts this movie above the typical, hell-horror-flick.
It was worth the matinee price of $6.75.

Firefox's 25 Million Downloads
So there has been some news the past week about firefox reaching 25 million downloads. For some reason CNET seems to think that means it's on 25 million desktops according to the headline of this article.
My estimate is that it might be on half that many desktops, and considering the users of firefox are probably more geek based, that means a lot of people with multiple computers have installed it on all of their machines. I have probably downloaded it 8-10 times in total.
I guess I just hate when people make completely mis-leading headlines for articles, or when previews on TV come on and give the impression tha something huge is going to happen but nothing does.
When will people realize when you do this sort of thing you lose credibility?
I think I am thinking about this too much

Rainy Friday
Right now it is raining about as hard as I have seen it rain all dang winter. This winter has been way too sucky, but today is making up for that a bit. As a matter of fact about a third of the street and all of the side-walk outside my office window is flooded. It needs to rain like this more often...
Speaking of weather and stuff. I still haven't made it up to Sierra Summit (warning their fancy javascript menu doesn't work in FireFox) for a couple years now and I have been telling myself I would for the past 2 years. I need to make a trip, espcially knowing this weather is going to make a lot of new snow.
Does anyone know how to Ski?

Make a comparison
Compare the following picture to the one in the post below...I'm not gonna deny the accused fabricated sex appeal hasn't appealed to myself, but britney does have a resemblence to Anne Ramsey...
Ok I was wrong about the music industry
You see, before I used to think, music talent was the only thing that was fabricated, and shadowed by sex appeal, turns out I was wrong. The sex appeal is fabricated too...
The Dell 24 incher
This new Dell monitor (Dell UltraSharp 2405FPW Widescreen LCD) coming out is cute as can be. 24 inches of fairly high resolution (1920x1200 the same as the $1,800 23 inch Apple Display) eye joy. The best part is that it's price from Dell is only $1,200 which is quite interesting since it is basically a Dell labeled Samsung monitor which goes for about $1,900.
If I could get one for under $1k with some Dell coupons I am all for it, you know, some day when I have the money. So never, I'll never have this monitor, ever.
I can only dream of what Sonar would be like on this giant...

Happy Hacking Keyboard, almost but not quite
I have been looking for a keyboard for a while now. I want one with the short laptop style keys, compact, wireless, and no labels (it should scare my siblings away). I also would like a seperate matching number pad. The happy kacking keyboard is the closest thing I have seen to what I like but it doesn't have F-Keys and the backspace key is a small single button, I strongly prefer to have the double sized backspace.
I'd pay $200 to have exactly what I want...pure keyboard bliss...one day

Steve Jobs Playing Dirty?
via CNET "According to sources at major record labels, Jobs himself sent top music executives a link to a blog explaining how to turn copy-protected songs from Apple rival Napster into unprotected, freely burnable music files. The story rippled through label circles Tuesday, as executives tried to understand whether any actual damage had been done to the service."
Does Steve Jobs not realize I can just as easily turn iTunes music into unprotected files? I'd like for this not to be true but man that's stupid.

Kriss Kross on Sony's site

This is just way to funny.
I guess the Kris Kross website (remember, those little gangsta children who wore their pants backwards) from 1995 is still up on Sony's website. Browse around, have a laugh.

Napster Test Drive
I started giving Napster a test drive yesterday. Thus far I have downloaded 9 Gigabytes of music. So far there have only been a couple of things I have searched for and haven't found some of which probably wouldn't even be stocked by Amazon.
I still need to test it to see if the CDA player in my truck will play these types of WMA's, anyway, the service is great, it's just as good as iTunes if not better, so that's what matters.

In Honor of Ray Charles

I wonder if people knew what this man really did if they would still honor him the way they do.
So here's a big Screw You Ray Charles, you horrible, miserable, lucky man. It's a shame people like you are honored.

47th Grammy Awards
Watching the Grammy awards as I type this and they are pretty typical which basically means, boring and sucky. What really interested me is the past two artists to perform on stage, although I don't think they were lip-syncing the band was syncing. At the guitar solos were sync'd. I could clearly see time discrepancies, their fingers were not matching what I was hearing at all. Another thing that was annoying was, for example during Green Day's performance they focused on Billy Joel's guitar during the guitar solo, yet it was the other guitarist playing. Why can't bands just play as bands anymore, what is wrong with a little bit of a bad note here and there? It obviously works for American Idol, why can't we see the bands just as they are? I could get into how messed up the music industry is and stuff, but I have come to realize that even though music is an artform the music industry is not, it's a business, and they have made it as profitable as can be, and that's ok.
I will give credit to John Mayer though, his performance was simple and I think it was real, and he screwed up while he was singing a few times, and I liked it.

Happy V-Day

Happy Valentine's Day
I have some cool plans with Bri, should be a good surprise, Enjoy!
On another note, I don't see why all these candies and crap are designed after hearts. They're gross if you ask me. Look at that, disgusting...

Money Money Money Money...MONEY!
I don't really remember how long ago it was but it was Brianna, Dallas and I sitting at a table at the Cold Stone Creamery and the song from The Apprentice came on. We were kind of listening to it I think we said a couple things about it, and went out into the parking lot and made some joke about the bass line...I won't try and replicate one of those had to be there things but it was mega funny.
So the next jam Ben, Arsy and I had we attempted to play off of what I remembered from it and it turned out pretty good, then last night when we jammed we recorded a video of it which can be seen here.

Jobs says: Three PC makers are hitting me up for OS X
via Engadget "Bombshell-lovin’ Stevie J. reveals plenty in a recent in-depth interview he did with Fortune mag, but the one that really got our juices flowing was when he drops that “three of the biggest PC makers are trying to convince him to license OS X for use in their machines, because their customers are “sick of the security problems that go with Windows and tired of waiting for Longhorn. We’d bet that at least one of those companies is Sony, but he doesn’t tell us what we really want to know: whether he said yes."
Woah! That could be huge, PC makers shipping PC's with OS X. I read an article a while back where some Apple Developer was talking about how easy it would be to port OS X to x86, but is that what they mean, or do the PC suppliers want to supply their own branded PPC's? Who knows but either way if it is a little more competative with the PC market this could be a huge kick in Microsoft's pants. At least I would like to think so. This is sort of an angle I never looked at it from, that could at least hurt Microsoft. Either way it's cool with me, if something comes of it, and Apple plays their cards right I could see people saying "Hey I can get an iPC from Dell rather than a PC

Oh goody

Tomorrow's forecast is rain. I love rain and I am severly dissapointed in this years weather, not a single lightning storm (I think there was one while I was in Glamis for New Years) and no crazy heavy rain. Maybe tomorrow will get a little late winter winter weather action going on
I tried posting this yesterday but blogger was being wierd

Steve Vai's Real Illusions : Reflections leak
Well I acquired a leak of Steve Vai's up and coming album Real Illusions | Reflections yesterday and after giving it a listen through it is much better than I thought. The songs are somewhat catchy and structured pretty uniquely. I think what I like about it most is it is like a new song in the style of each one of his previous albums. There are definite references to a lot of his previous stuff which is pretty cool, and makes his playing seem more like he knows precisely what he is doing rather than wanking.
Not a lot of people consider this but this is Steve Vai's first studio album in 6 years (Ultra Zone came out in 2005) he has released some DVD's and a live cd in the in between time but nothing is like a good studio album.
The 7th song for this album is called Lotus Feet, it's got horns and stuff in it, which is interesting, cause there is like guitar solo and triumphet sounding trumpets. You know like film scoring type of stuff.
Anyway, the album is worth a buy if you like guitars, oh and if you want a copy of the leak, sorry, but my sources are just too dang confidential to share ;=/
Oh and one more thing I would link to Vai.com but those a**-holes don't deserve any visits from me..

Extreme Makeover Home Edition Bakersfield
As I was leaving the World Ag Expo with Brianna and her Brother and Sister I walked by somebody who looked familiar I stared for a couple seconds and then Brianna and myself looked at eachother right at the same time as we realized who the kid was. It was the kid from the Extreme Makeover Home Edition that was filmed in Bakersfield.
For those of you who haven't seen the show, the families Dad died in a car wreck. They owned a farm that had gone to crap since and their life was all sucky and the Extreme Makeover crew hooked them up with a couple million dollars worth of stuff. Including a huge barn thousands of dollars worth of hay they could sell, they cultivated and planted 20 acres (I think) of alf-alfa for them, completely rebuilt their house, gave them a huge 6,000 sq. ft. barn, a ford F-250 and some other Ford Van/Car looking thing, all new tractor equipment, a pool etc.
Anyway, it was interesting that I saw him at the ag expo after seeing him on tv 2-days ago. Funny part was, he was wearing the same clothes.
